The John Deere dealership was a gathering spot for local farmers in the late 1930’s and 1940’s. Some dealers even had the tradition of having Santa on hand to give out candy to the children. This 2007 John Deere commemorative Holiday Ornament - the 12th ornament in this unique series - relives that Holiday tradition and highlights the John Deere H Tractor. Introduced in 1939 and built until 1947, this tractor was a mid-sized 12-hp tractor that replaced horses for many tasks. A complete line of matched equipment made it an economical workhorse for small farmers, and a narrow, tapered hood provided unimpaired visibility for cultivating two rows. Each hand-painted pewter ornament is packed in a velour pouch stamped with the John Deere trademark and the year of issue. These ornaments make ideal gifts for the antique tractor enthusiast, a popular item for collectors, and a great link to roots for children who have left their farm home. The ornaments are also nice heirlooms to pass on to future family generations.
